Doherty esce dal carcere

Torna in libertà Pete Doherty: il rocker inglese ha scontato 29 giorni dei tre mesi e mezzo di pena, comminatagli per aver violato le disposizioni di un tribunale londinese legate al suo sfrenato consumo di droga. Ai giornalisti che lo aspettavano fuori dalla prigione di Wormwood Scrubs, a Londra - scrive il sito della Bbc - il 29enne leader dei Babyshambles ha detto di essere felice, di non vedere l’ora di farsi un bicchiere e trascorrere un po’ di tempo con i suoi gatti. Doherty è finito in prigione il mese scorso per aver fatto uso di diversi tipi di droga, non essersi presentato per la firma dei registri in tribunale e per non aver preso parte al programma di riabilitazione. A causa della detenzione l’ex fidanzato di Kate Moss ha dovuto posticipare un suo concerto alla prestigiosa Royal Albert Hall di Londra, in programma il 26 aprile. I tabloid britannici hanno annunciato che a duettare con lui sul palco ci sarà l’amica Amy Winehouse, regina del pop-soul britannico, che con lui condivide la passione per la musica, ma anche quella per gli eccessi. Rissa con il pubblico al Piper di Roma, concerto interrotto. Poi il leader dei Babyshambles si scaglia contro tutti

ROMA — Pete Doherty avrà pure smesso di drogarsi, ma i suoi dèmoni non lo hanno abbandonato. E ieri al Piper di Roma, dove ha concluso con i suoi BabyShambles il tour italiano, non c'era nemmeno la fidanzata Kate Moss — che ultimamente non lo perde di vista un secondo — a calmare i suoi bollenti spiriti. Così, il ventisettenne cantante inglese ha ingaggiato una rissa con il pubblico. Colpa di un contenitore di cartone che, lanciato dalla platea durante il concerto, ha ferito il batterista, costretto a uscire dal palco. Pete afferra l'asta del microfono e, pensando di aver individuato il «colpevole» del misfatto, la sbatte sugli spettatori delle prime file che, per fortuna, riescono a parare il colpo.
L'oltraggioso divo del nuovo rock inglese va a controllare come sta il suo amico. Dopo una manciata di minuti Doherty ritorna in scena e si mette lui stesso a suonare la batteria. Qualche minuto ancora e il musicista ferito ritorna in scena. Ma la diatriba fra Pete e la folla, cinquecento ragazzi, continua con un breve scambio di insulti. Poi però, terminato l'ultimo pezzo — «Fuck Forever» — il cattivo ragazzo del rock riprende l'asta del microfono e spacca tutti gli strumenti sul palco, amplificatori compresi, travolgendo il chitarrista.

È il rock portato alle estreme conseguenze quello di Pete. Poche parole, fra una canzone e l'altra, quasi tutte tratte dall'album «Down In Albion» il primo, e finora unico cd, dei suoi sgangherati BabyShambles. Però fin dall'inizio della serata si capisce che non sarà una passeggiata. Pete, che sul palco beve vodka, cerca di strappare l'obiettivo a un fotografo, si arrampica su una ringhiera (per fortuna bassa) e poi si lascia cadere a testa in giù, spacca una bottiglia sul palco e canta con un asciugamano bagnato in testa. Non è uno che si risparmia quando va in scena («Pieni di energia, non è così che dovrebbero essere i live?», ha detto in un'intervista al Corriere). Si ferisce con un oggetto tagliente ma, invece di asciugarsi il sangue sul torace, imbraccia la chitarra e continua a suonare.

Strano destino quello di Doherty. Il suo talento musicale fino a qualche mese fa veniva soffocato dalla sua tossicodipendenza; adesso viene messo in ombra dalla sua fidanzata ex-cocainomane che aspetta pure un figlio da lui. Doherty sembra essersi buttato la droga alle spalle, ha perfino messo su qualche chilo. Ma sarà difficile dimenticare l'ultima immagine di Pete che si accascia per terra come un fantoccio. Ci vogliono due persone per farlo rialzare e portarlo via, mentre la folla acclama il divo maledetto del rock'n'roll.

Cornucopia Of Clash At Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame And New Boxed Set

This is a big month for The Clash and their fans, as the group will be the subject of a new exhibit at the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame and have all of their British singles released in a boxed set.

The Clash released six full-length albums before their 1986 demise, and were inducted into the hall in 2003, a few months after singer/songwriter/guitarist Joe Strummer died of a sudden heart attack.

Revolution Rock: The Story Of The Clash will open at the Cleveland, Ohio museum on October 21 and run until April 15. The exhibit will feature instruments, clothing, memorabilia and never-before-seen original manuscripts and artifacts from what used to be described as "the only band that matters." Band members Mick Jones and Terry Chimes, along with Strummer's widow, Lucinda Mellor, will take part in the opening of the exhibit on October 20 and 21.

"If you told me 30 years ago that we were going to be in a museum, we would have laughed at you," Jones says of the honour.

Epic/Legacy will release The Clash: The Singles boxed set on October 31. It will include all 19 of the group's U.K. singles (including the never commercially released New Music Express give-away Capital Radio EP) packaged in replica sleeves and with replica labels. It will come with a 44-page booklet with rare photos and sleeve notes written by The Who's Pete Townshend, U2's The Edge, Beastie Boy Mike D, Sex Pistol Steve Jones, Gorillaz and Blur's Damon Albarn, Foo Fighter Chris Shiflett, The Pogues' Shane McGowan, Stone Roses' Ian Brown, New Order's Bernard Sumner, The Libertines and Dirty Pretty Things' Carl Barat, The Doves' Jim Goodwin, Primal Scream's Bobby Gillespie and authors Irvine Welsh and Danny Boyle.

Jones and Clash bassist Paul Simonon chose the bonus tracks for the package, which will be available with either CDs or seven-inch vinyl singles.

The Others return!

There's a new single, album and tour

The Others, who are set to return with their second album next month, have confirmed details of a UK tour.

'Inward Parts', the follow-up to 2005's self-titled debut, is released on October 30. It's preceded by a single, 'The Truth That Hurts', a week earlier.

Yeti Set To Release New EP

After a little hiatus, Yeti are back next month with a new EP and they've also finished their debut album.

The band will follow such singles as Keep Pushin' On and Never Lose Your Sense Of Wonder with a five track EP named One Eye On The Banquet.

The EP will hit shops on October 30th and is a taster for the album, which the band have been recordings with producer Craig Silvey (previously he's worked with Magic Numbers and The Coral).

Babyshambles To Record New EP

Babyshambles are to record a new EP called The Blinding for a brand new record company following their departure form Rough Trade earlier this year.

Pete Doherty’s band will also start work on the follow up to last years Down in Albion for Regal, which is a division of Parlophone records and home to Lily Allen and The Beta Band.

Doherty's football-crazy nuptials

Pete Doherty wants to marry supermodel Kate Moss at his favourite football ground – but has been turned down by officials.

The Babyshambles star is a devout Queens Park Rangers fan and has always dreamed of tying the knot at the west London club.

After finding fame with rock band The Libertines, Doherty was a regular guest of honour at games, but after he was caught taking drugs in the club toilets in February, he was banned from the historic venue.

However, with magistrates terming his current rehabilitation program a success, the rocker is confident he will be able to win officials round.

A source revealed: “Both Pete and Kate want a quirky wedding which is going to fit their personalities.

“Pete's first love is QPR, and holding his big day there is something which he has always thought about.

“To him it would be a laugh - and that is what he and Kate want their nuptials to be about.”

Juliette Lewis teams up with Dave Grohl

Juliette & The Licks have roped in Dave Grohl for their forthcoming second album.

The band, fronted by Hollywood actress Juliette Lewis release 'Four On The Floor' on October 2'.

And though he only planned to hook up with the band for demos, sessions went so well that Nirvana and Foo Fighters legend Grohl stayed on to finish the Dylan Mclaren-produced album.

Lewis herself said of the collection: "The through line on this record is desire, in its many forms. Desire of dreams, love, redemption and the consequences of that; the unfulfillment, the betrayal, the pursuit, the need."

Finalmente ha un nome l'attesissimo album di debutto degli inglesi The Long Blondes!
La band di Sheffield pubblicherà 'Someone To Drive You Home' il 6 Novembre.
Il disco è stato registrato a Londra, con la produzione dell'ex-Pulp Steve Mackey e sarà preceduto dal singolo apripista 'Once And Never Again' il 23 Ottobre.

Barat looks to bright post-Libertines future

PARIS (Reuters) - Out of the spotlight since The Libertines imploded two years ago, guitarist and singer Carl Barat is back with a new band called Dirty Pretty Things and feels ready for a fresh rock'n'roll journey.

While former bandmate Pete Doherty attracted media attention for his self-confessed drug addiction and a shambolic lifestyle, Barat worked on debut album "Waterloo to Anywhere", a set of angry and often exhilarating songs reminiscent of The Clash.

A Union Jack sling on his right arm -- he broke a collarbone this month -- a relaxed Barat reflected on the past year while sipping white wine after a high-tempo gig at the Rock-En-Seine music festival in the 17th century Saint-Cloud park near Paris.

"It's been a blur. It's been emotional, unpredictable. It's been hard and gratifying. I feel happy that we came together as a band, that it feels so natural and genuine," Barat told Reuters in a weekend interview.

But he played down speculation in the media that he and Doherty, a tabloid favourite for his public battle with drugs and relationship with supermodel Kate Moss, might reunite.

"I don't think so. We are just friends. Maybe one day we'll play together again. We are both doing very different things. We are both busy. Maybe one day when we are both finished."

Barat formed Dirty Pretty Things in September, 2005, naming the band after the London club he had set up while with the Libertines and where he regularly works as a DJ.

The band also features former Libertines drummer Gary Powell, guitarist Antony Rossomando, who stood in for Doherty on the final Libertines shows, and former Cooper Temple Clause bassist Didz Hammond.

Of Dirty Pretty Things, Barat said: "It's focussed, there is a unity and a togetherness which is something I always wanted in a band. That's how the Libertines started, with a togetherness."

While the clash of two strong egos -- his and Doherty's -- wrecked the Libertines, Dirty Pretty Things is a "more democratic" outfit.

In the two years of their existence, The Libertines created a cult following and helped revive guitar rock, with raw, lyrical songs and a vision of a mythical England, largely inspired by poet William Blake.

Barat, 28, was always known as the "reasonable" Libertine, who ensured the band met touring commitments even after the unpredictable Doherty was kicked out.

The Barat of Rock-En-Seine is polite and charming despite a cold and the "painful" collarbone, quick with a joke and remarkably at ease discussing the Libertines' past.

"I am proud of the Libertines. The Libertines was my childhood, my rights of passage. Yeah, it was hard but it taught me a lot, made me stronger, gave me direction and confidence," he said, fondly displaying the Libertines tattoo on his arm.

"But what I am doing right now is as important as the Libertines," he quickly added.

One critic described the mood of Waterloo to Anywhere as that "of somebody who has just escaped a passionate but abusive relationship and is learning to live for himself again."

Asked if songs such as "Doctors and Dealers" and "Bang Bang You're Dead", with its lyrics "I gave you the Midas touch/you turned around and scratched out my heart" were a swipe at Doherty, Barat replied:

"What I am writing in a song is obviously the result of what's happened in the past years. I am not going to deny that. The Libertines put me here. But I am moving forward. I am not bitter."

The Who Name New Album

The long awaited new album from The Who will be called Endless Wire and not Who 2 as previously reported.

Endless Wire, the bands first studio album in 24 years, will be released on October 30 and will feature brand new tracks called Man In A Purple Dress, Mike Post Theme and the recent EP Wire & Glass.

Pete Doherty e Carl Barat starebbero per riunirsi per registrare una canzone.
Gli ex-Libertines hanno entrambi inciso parti di una cover del classico Clash 'Janie Jones', che sarà pubblicata per raccogliere fondi destinati a Strummerville, nata in memoria di Joe Strummer, e preposta ad incoraggiare la promozione di nuova musica. Dovrebbe essere pubblicato entro la fine dell'anno.
Una fonte riporta: "It's still early days and nothing has been set in stone but they've both put down vocals."

A fine settembre l'esordio dei Milburn

Visti in Italia come supporters degli Arctic Monkeys (di cui sono concittadini, e a cui vagamente somigliano), i Milburn debutteranno sulla lunga distanza il prossimo 25 settembre.

The Darkness ci riprovano...

Gli inglesi The Darkness malgrado le disastrose vendite del loro (ignobile, in effetti) secondo album "One Way Ticket To Hell and Back", stanno pensando di pubblicarne un terzo all'inizio del prossimo anno.
Intanto, secondo quanto riportato dal loro sito ufficiale, il cantante Justin Hawkins sarebbe stato ricoverato nel weekend in una clinica per la riabilitazione dall'alcolismo e la band ha spostato a data da determinarsi tutti gli impegni futuri. "Justin si sentiva stanco e voleva andare da qualche parte per chiarirsi la mente", avrebbe dichiarato una fonte anonima. "Al momento non sta molto bene, la sua pelle ha assunto un colorito giallastro. Per lui la clinica Priory è il miglior posto dove stare al momento". Secondo un bollettino medico diramato dalla band "è di primaria importanza che Justin riposi e recuperi per le prossime due settimane".

Pete Doherty arrestato a Londra (...ma va?)

Altro che matrimonio con Kate Moss!
Pete Doherty è stato nuovamente arrestato a Londra per possesso di eroina, cocaina e cannabis. Una telenovela infinita quella del giovane e stravagante musicista inglese, leader del gruppo rock 'The Libertines'. Doherty dovrà comparire oggi di fronte a un giudice del Tribunale di Londra. Il 26enne musicista rock, che aveva confessato i suoi problemi con gli stupefacenti e la sua intenzione di uscire dal tunnel della droga, stava seguendo un programma di disintossicazione impostogli da una precedente sentenza. Ad aiutarlo nella difficile strada della disintossicazione anche la top model Kate Moss.
I due si erano lasciati l'anno scorso, dopo che la top model era stata travolta in uno scandalo che l'ha vista finire su tutti i giornali del mondo per la foto che la ritraeva mentre sniffava cocaina. Ma i tabloid inglesi hanno recentemente pubblicato la notizia di una riconciliazione e di un possibile matrimonio fra i due ad Ibiza proprio in questi giorni.

Un album solista per Pete Doherty

Pete Doherty ha confermato di essere al lavoro su un disco da pubblicare come solista entro la fine dell’anno: il CD si intitolerà “The implant sessions”, riferendosi chiaramente all’intervento antidroga a cui l’ex frontman dei Libertines si è sottoposto per combattere la sua dipendenza dall’eroina (vedi News). Il cantante ha aggiunto di essere anche impegnato nella scrittura del prossimo disco dei Babyshambles.

La nuova band di Damon Albarn

Il bassista dei mitici The Clash Paul Simonon has per la prima volta svelato di essere stato contattato per far parte della nuova band di Damon Albarn.
Il leader dei Gorillaz ha collaborato con Simonon, l'ex chitarrista Verve e Blur Simon Tong e il batterista dei Fela Kuti Tony Allen su 'The Good, The Bad and The Queen', in uscita a Gennaio 2007.
Simonon ha detto: "I came down to listen to two tracks, and I could hear a bassline for it immediately. We thought let's give it a go and we basically started from that and we started a whole new record."
L'album è prodotto da Gnarls Barkley's Dangermouse.

Novità in arrivo

Cominciamo dall'annunciatissimo nuovo album dei Scissor Sisters. La colorata band ha svelato titolo e tracce del loro secondo disco, seguito dell'omonimo lp di successo del 2004.
'Ta-Dah' uscirà il 25 Settembre e, come previsto, Elton John sarà la guest star sul singolo apripista "I Don't Feel Like Dancin", che sarà pubblicato il 18 Settembre.

Il chitarrista Jasper Future dice del secondo lp: "We've got the music done, and we're just waiting for Eddie (Argos) to write the words. That takes a bit longer. Eddie's an artist. He needs time to think. We'll be, 'Have you written the words?' And he'll say, 'The best way for me to write is on this sofa with my eyes shut'."

I dettagli sul nuovo album dei Jet

I Jet hanno svelato tutto sul loro attesissimo nuovo disco.
I rocker australiani pubblicheranno il nuovo singolo 'Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is' il 18 Settembre, cui farà seguito l'album 'Shine On', per l'esattezza il 2 Ottobre.
Il seguito dell'acclamato 'Get Born' del 2003 è stato registrato alle Barbados, nel Massachusetts e a Los Angeles con il super-produttore Dave Sardy.
E il batterista Chris Cester non misura le parole sulle ambizioni della band per questo lavoro: "Il primo album è stato pensato per i pub. Questo è scritto per gli stadi!"

Doherty e Barat iniziano le manovre di reunion

Gli ex bandmates Pete Doherty e Carl Barat si sono incontrati per discutere della ricostituzione dei The Libertines, due anni dopo la cacciata di Doherty fuori della band britannica. E' accaduto al Dublin Castle pub di Camden, Londra, la sera di martedì 18 luglio 2006, dopo che le comuni amiche Kate Moss e Lisa Moorish li avevano incoraggiati a mettere da parte il loro problematico passato. Barat aveva estromesso Doherty dai The Libertines nel 2004 a causa della sua dipendenza dalle droghe. Una persona informata rivela, "Carl turned up bang on time at 8pm. He sat on his own drinking and minding his own business. Then Pete showed up an hour later - which is on time by his standards. "They got the pints in and sat together for about two hours. It was emotional for both of them. But they got on really well and managed to soothe some old wounds. "They did discuss the possibility of working together. "Carl has always said he would only reform the band if Pete gets off drugs, which he has failed to do. But there was forgiveness on both sides. "E' il primo passo verso una possibile reunion."

A San Siro per i Rolling Stones, Azzurri sul palco

Folla in delirio a San Siro e Azzurri sul palco ieri per l'unica tappa italiana del "Bigger Bang Tour" dei Rolling Stones a Milano.

Nonostante l'età che avanza e qualche infortunio -- l'evento è stato rimandato di circa un mese a causa dell'incidente accaduto al 62enne Keith Richards che, caduto da un albero, è stato operato alla testa in Nuova Zelanda a giugno -- Mick Jagger e i suoi hanno infiammato con la loro inesauribile energia i 60.000 accorsi allo stadio milanese con due ore di grande musica.

A dare inizio alle danze 'Jumping Jack flash', seguita da un "ciao Milano, ciao Italia, campioni del mondo". Al termine dell'esibizione, Jagger ha invitato sul palco i calciatori Marco Materazzi e Alessando Del Piero.

"Materazzi e Richards hanno qualcosa in comune stasera, entrambi hanno avuto problemi con la testa!", ha scherzato l'icona del rock, riferendosi all'incidente di Richards e alla ormai famosa testata del francese Zinedine Zidane a Materazzi durante la finale dei Mondiali di domenica scorsa.

La folla ha sventolato migliaia di bandiere italiane mentre gli Stones eseguivano molti dei loro classici -- nel finale l'immancabile '(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction'-- e qualcuno dei brani più recenti.

Dall'uscita nel 2005 del loro ultimo album "A Bigger Bang", i Rolling Stones si sono esibiti in tre continenti davanti ad un totale di oltre 4 milioni e mezzo di fan, secondo il direttore del tour.

Il gruppo, con hit come 'Get Off of My Cloud', ha venduto circa 240 milioni di dischi dall'inizio della sua longeva carriera oltre quaranta anni fa.

White Stripes Re d'Italia

La band onorata per il successo 'calcistico' di 'Seven Nation Army'

Ormai ne parla anche la stampa estera, usando titoli come 'I White Stripes fanno impazzire l'Italia'. Si riferiscono naturalmente all'ormai arcinoto po-po-po-po-po-po-po che ha accompagnato come coro la Nazionale Italiana nel corso del suo cammino vincente ai Mondiali di Germania.

Il riff di "Seven Nation Army" è diventato ormai il ritornello più canticchiato in Italia in questi giorni, dopo che la moda venne lanciata nella curva della Roma, la scorsa stagione.
Ora la news è giunta ai White Stripes in persona, che a detta del loro portavoce, si sono sentiti onorati: "E' incredibile che quella canzone sia diventata una specie di secondo inno nazionale e che l'altra sera a Roma 500.000 persone l'abbiano cantata in coro".

Poco importa se fra 500.000 probabilmente solo qualche decina avrà sentito la versione originale di Jack e Meg. Questo, forse, meglio non dirlo alla band di Detroit.

Lily Allen al numero 1 in UK

Lily Allen (già vista qualche post fa) balza in vetta alla chart dei singoli in UK, scalando con il suo killer-hit Smile 12 posizioni dal n.13.
La ventunenne di Hammersmith (Londra) si piazza davanti a Razorlight (3), Paolo Nutini (5) e Bob Sinclar Ft Steve Edwards (9).
'Black Holes and Revelations' dà ai Muse, invece, il primo posto nella classifica degli album, superando facilmente The Kooks e The Zutons.

Pete Doherty non molla

Pete Doherty non molla. Durante un'intervista alla Radio 1 della BBC ha detto al conduttore Jonathan Ross che si sottopone a test contro l'eroina e il crack due volte a settimana. Solo restando pulito può finalmente rimettersi a scrivere. La tossicodipendenza ha danneggiato la sua creatività.
Nel corso dell'intervista Doherty ha anche confermato il suo amore per Kate Moss e ha commentato l'espulsione dai Libertines. Dopo che gli era stato chiesto di lasciare la band a causa dell'abuso di droghe, Doherty si introdusse nell'appartamento di Carl Barat (co-fondatore del gruppo), reato per il quale fu condannato a sei mesi di prigione nel 2003, poi ridotti a due. "Ero diventato persona non grata nel gruppo, mi hanno esiliato per via delle droghe, ma in realtà perché non volevo andare in tour", ha detto Doherty.
